29 Hostess Gifts for Lake House (2024)
You’re invited to stay at someone’s vacation home. You’ve thought of everything: the packing, the food, the water toys… And then you realize, you still need to find the perfect hostess lake house gift.
Sure, a nice bottle of wine will do. But if they are inviting you to stay at their home, isn’t a personal gift much better?
As a former Retail Buyer (yes, I used to shop for a living), and someone who has spent every summer at the lake, here is my curated list of the 29 best hostess gifts for a Lake House.
1) Kitchen Towels
These tea towels are at the top of my list for several reasons. The price is right, there are several colour options, and they can be used in the kitchen or as napkins! In fact, I’d probably pair them with these gorgeous rattan napkin rings.
Pro tip: Instead of gifting these as is, I’d repackage them. I think you could easily add some jute twine around the pile to give it a lake house-y vibe. Also, this will allow you to keep a few for yourself.
Does anyone really need 15 kitchen towels/napkins?!
2) Marble Coasters
These marble coasters are a great option if you are unaware of the lake house decor. They are understated and durable. And quite beautiful!
3) Seagull Tote Bag
Some of us call them seagulls, and others call them beach chickens. The caw of the seagull is synonymous with lake life. If your friends have a sense of humor, this is a fun beach tote to give them! And if you want to take the seagull theme one step further, check out our line of seagull greeting cards here.
4) Boat Dish
Life IS great at the Lake! So are chips and dip! One of the many reasons why lake life is truly the best life!
6) Throw Blanket
In the dog days of summer, we tend to forget how the nip in the air comes quickly at us in August. At that point in the season, hoodies and flannel blankets are adorned once the sun goes down. Here’s a gorgeous option for a snuggly throw.
7) Beach Towels
Every year my Mum would buy new beach towels to add to the collection. She was always afraid we wouldn’t have enough when guests arrived. I suspect each of us kids had more towels hidden in our bedrooms than we let on.
8) Bird Feeder
In our neck of the woods “Muskoka Chairs” aka Adirondack Chairs are synonymous with the Lake. This bird feeder is cute and quirky, and a fun addition to the exterior of any lake house.
IYKYK. Need I say more?
10) Card Game
And if you are the kind of lake house guest that likes to get toasted, perhaps gift this along with the sign above.
11) Large Soy Candle
I’ve bought and burned dozens of Serendipity Candles. Their candles are all 100% pure soy wax, plant-based, hand-poured, and free from harsh chemicals. This Canadian seller has lots of products that make the perfect hostess gift ideas.
Pro tip: I’d peel off the label and add a nautical ribbon around the neck of the candle. Something like this striped ribbon or this farmhouse stripe ribbon.
12) Tiki Torch
If your hosts enjoy al fresco dining, these are the perfect gift! Gorgeous and functional!
13) Fine Bone China Mug
Pair this mug with your favorite coffee beans and voila! This is another Canadian brand that I am very familiar with. The box that the mug comes in, is just as pretty as the mug itself!
All you need is a little ribbon and your gift wrapping is done.
14) Linen Throw Pillows Covers
Every lake house needs a hint of ticking. It’s classic and oh-so-beautiful. Don’t forget the inserts!
15) Box of Guest Soap
Another hostess gift idea is these beautiful guest soaps. Perhaps you’ll find the soap in the guest washroom on your next visit!
16) Puzzle Tray
This is a pricey gift. However, if you know your lake house hosts are avid puzzlers, then I am sure it would be greatly appreciated.
Or if you’d prefer to add another puzzle to their collection, this one is so serene and beautiful.
18) Playing Cards
A beautiful set of playing cards will always be welcomed as a hostess gift.
19) Cribbage Board
When we are at the lake, rainy days mean two things: day drinking and card games! This cribbage board even has storage for your cards!
20) Coffee Table Book
A gorgeous coffee table book about water? Talk about the perfect hostess gift when you’re at the lake!
21) Door Stopper
Decks, check! Docks, check! Flip flops, double-check! Lots of great options with fun sayings. Here are a few more items that would work too.

22) Shatterproof Wine Glasses
In my experience, Muskoka chairs, decks, and wine glasses are not a great combination. We’ve broken tons of glassware at the lake. These shatterproof wine glasses are a great alternative!
And they're dishwasher safe. A nice option to the traditional lake home stemless wine glasses.
23) Salt Pig
If your hosts are foodies, this salt pig is a lovely gift. And a great addition to any lake house kitchen. You can gift the kosher salt too!
24) Gurgle Pot
If you haven’t heard of a Gurgle Pot then you’re in for a treat! This water pitcher produces a gurgle sound when water is being poured. It is always a hit around the dinner table!
With so many colours to choose from it is sure to go with anyone's home decor. These would also make a great housewarming gift since there are so many options.
25) Lake-Inspired Art Prints
Are you team sunrise, or team sunset? Either way, these wall art prints embody that magical time of day. They are also available on Etsy!
26) Maple Syrup
Sunday mornings at the lake always consisted of scrambled eggs, toast, pancakes, and of course real maple syrup. This Canadian-made maple syrup comes in a gorgeous gift box. And if you’d like to take your maple syrup game to the next level, try their 3-pack!
27) Cheese Board
When we were kids, lunchtime at the Lake included a full dinner. My grandmother would make us meat, potatoes, and vegetables. These days we are a lot less formal and usually end up eating cheese and cold meats on the deck or dock.
The beautiful cheese board can be used as a charcuterie board, or as a rustic wall hanging. Perfection!
28) Bocce Ball
If you’re looking for gift ideas that the whole family will like, an outdoor game like Bocce Ball is fun. Or a gigantic game of Jenga!
29) Cheese Knives Stainless
Steel cheese knives with a beautiful acacia wood handle. Perfect for any lake home décor.
Curating gift guides, like this one for lake house gifts, is such a pleasure. I hope it has given you lots of ideas when you need your next hostess gift lake inspired or not!
